The Edge Initiative is developing a suite of tools that support continuous improvement and reinvestment in public technology. Edge will help library leaders assess the public computers in their libraries, how they’re being used, identify ways to strengthen or enhance public technology, and communicate with key leaders on the value of the library's computers.
The assessment tools are the known as the Edge benchmarks. The Edge benchmarks help you identify practices, policies, equipment, and staffing you need to provide computer and Internet services to your patrons. They will enable you to score yourself against best practices that define access and quality.
The benchmarks will be supported by training and a toolkit of customizable materials that you can use to reach out to your community and to local decision makers about the importance of your public computer center.
