They’re Collecting What?: Reading Vendor Privacy Policies With an Eye to Privacy Concerns

When was the last time you struggled to understand a vendor’s privacy policy—if you even had time to read it. In the digital world, patron privacy becomes increasingly complex for libraries monitor and safeguard. In this webinar, we’ll guide you through a sampling of vendor privacy policies, examine typical policy language, and discuss important questions that libraries need to be asking and addressing with vendors in order to protect patron privacy.

Presented by: Nicole Becwar (Western Colorado University) & Qiana Johnson (Northwestern University)

Nicole Becwar is the Technical Services Librarian & Archivist at Western Colorado University. She is a graduate of the Colorado Association of Libraries Leadership Institute and a member of the Library Freedom Project. She is passionate about patron privacy and primary source literacy.

Qiana Johnson is the Collection and Organizational Data Analysis Librarian at the Northwestern University Libraries and is the subject specialist for Global Health and Public Policy. Her recent research interests include collection assessment methods at large research libraries and strategic planning for collections. She is a member of the American Library Association’s Policy Corps and the Library Freedom Project.
