The 2 Generation Approach to Eliminating Poverty

What is the 2Gen approach? You’re probably already doing it! The 2Gen approach is a method that helps families escape the cycle of poverty by intentionally serving children and their parents or adult caregivers together. Join us to brainstorm about how to support all members of the family and learn new ways to fight poverty in your community through library programs and services. Discover how you can expand and implement 2Gen more proactively. Explore examples from High Plains Library District and other Colorado communities and share your own examples and ideas for partnerships and programs from your own community.

Beth Crist is the Youth & Family Services Consultant for the Colorado State Library. Beth is passionate about equitable library service (ask me about eliminating overdue fines!), encouraging people to spend more time outside, and supporting all family members at the same time.
Becki is a Patron Services Supervisor with the High Plains Library District–Carbon Valley Regional Library in Firestone, where she supervises the daily operations of the library and oversees paraprofessional staff. She also provides technology instruction, serves as a resource to staff and the public, and collaborates frequently with community organizations. Prior to this, she was a Children’s Librarian for five years, where she oversaw children’s services and programming for the High Plains Library District–Erie Community Library. She coordinated the Supporting Parents in Early Literacy through Libraries grant prototype, which addressed parent and child early literacy education through library orientations and outreach. Becki has a Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of Denver.
