See ALA President Loida Garcia-Febo at the Pikes Peak Library District
October 5, 2018 - October 6, 2018
Pikes Peak Library District is excited to announce that Loida Garcia-Febo, the president of the American Library Association, will visit Colorado Springs from Oct. 5-6, 2018! She was recently elected ALA President and is the first Puerto Rican American to hold the post. Pikes Peak Library District is her first stop on a national tour of five library systems, which also includes Cambridge, Los Angeles, Miami, and Seattle.
While here, Garcia-Febo will attend the annual Harvest Festival at High Prairie Library, on Saturday, Oct. 6. She’ll address the crowd around 10:30 a.m. and participate as a guest judge of the annual costume contest at noon. The Harvest Festival, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., features dozens of fun events like the community-renowned cookie contest, marshmallow catapult, and pumpkin growing contest—featuring pumpkins grown with the High Prairie Library’s Seed Bank!
Garcia-Febo will also participate in other library-sponsored events while visiting Pikes Peak Library District. She’ll address the crowd in Spanish at Sand Creek Library’s Culture Mash, as well as be the guest speaker for the Pikes Peak Women’s “Powerful Women’s Series” at Library 21c, sharing why “Libraries = Strong Communities” at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively on Friday, Oct. 5. Both events are a part of Pikes Peak Library District’s annual All Pikes Peak Reads community reading program, with this year’s focus on diversity, multiculturalism, immigration and resiliency.
Don’t miss these great events, featuring the top executive of the oldest and largest library association in the world! All are invited to attend these events and meet Loida Garcia-Febo during her tour stop in Colorado.
